  • Overview

    GBC Metals, LLC doing business as Olin Brass, utilizes more than 60 different copper-based alloys to produce specialized sheet and strip products for a variety of end uses.  Primary markets for our high-performance products include automotive, microelectronic, and communication interconnects, as well as a long history in the supply of standard alloys in the manufacture of ammunition, coinage, and builders’ hardware.  We draw strength and success from the dedication of our employees, many of whom have spent decades working in our industry. We currently have an opportunity for a Design Engineer at our East Alton, Illinois, facility.


    Core Accountabilities

    • Design tools for progressive dies or transfer presses to fabricate parts per customers’ prints.
    • Operate Cad workstation using Solidworks to layout parts and tools and create drawings.
    • Manage all aspects of a design project—including design of tools and coordination of purchasing and developing activities.
    • Troubleshoot production problems on the floor and aid in determining root causes and assist with corrective actions.
    • Develop internal documentation for the release of a job to production.
    • Monitor and control project costs and lead times.
    • Conceptualize and communicate solutions to unique tooling problems.
    • Maintain engineering documentation using the ECN process.


    Competencies and Qualifications

    1. Engineering or related degree or equivalent tool making experience.
    2. One to three years of engineering experience.
    3. Stamping die knowledge, both build and assembly.
    4. Tool drafting techniques including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
