    GBC Metals, LLC, doing business as Olin Brass, utilizes more than 60 different copper-based alloys to produce specialized sheet and strip products for a variety of end uses. Primary markets for our high-performance products include automotive, microelectronic, and communication interconnects, as well as a long history in the supply of standard alloys in the manufacture of ammunition, coinage, and builders’ hardware. We currently have an opportunity for a Rolling Operator, at our Somers Thin Strip plant in Waterbury, Connecticut.

    Responsibilities

    Role Description:

     

    • Works as a rolling mill operator and helper as needed to cover open positions. Perform tasks in oil cellar as well as various machine Preventative Maintenance activities. Flexes to receiving and shipping and other areas as needed. Willing to work various shifts to cover pen positions as necessary.
    • Set-up and operate Sendzimir Z-mills. Use electronic contact and non-contact gauges, indicators, and controls to operate machine and check product. Choose appropriate rolls for use in rolling operation. Operate rewind equipment, steel sleeves and mill blocks to move material to and from machine for rolling.
    • Check material for proper gauge, surface finish, communicate with metrology lab to ensure product meets appropriate specifications. Moves material to and from machine using forklifts, transporters, cranes and pallet jacks. Continually monitor material and machine parameters to assure compliance with specifications.
    • Perform light maintenance on machines, such as changing and cleaning bearings, as well as work roll sand intermediate rolls. Execute maintenance in oil cellars, such as taking oil samples, changing filters, and cleaning equipment.
    • Perform various duties in receiving area, such as receiving and labeling coils and supplies, and bring all material to proper locations. Responsible for inventory levels on various plant supplies, and signaling when material levels reach reorder point. Perform various duties in shipping area, such as packaging materials, loading trucks, and operate scrap bailing equipment.
    • Direct and report faulty operations, improper material and unusual conditions to the Supervisor. Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition. Comply with all safety rules and regulations. Performs other similar or related duties as required or directed.
    • Act as a resource for the ship Supervisor / Superintendent and perform similar or related duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

     

    1. Ability to read and write English. Ability to maintain production records and logs;
    2. Employment record reflection reliability. Above average attendance;
    3. 3-5 years’ experience running Sendzimir Z – Mill or other related rolling machinery;
    4. Ability to perform simple math, addition and subtraction;
    5. Familiarity with use of micrometers and calipers;
    6. Excellent decision making skills and organizational ability;
    7. Mechanically inclined, comfort level with using small hand tools;
    8. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
