GBC Metals, LLC, doing business as Olin Brass, utilizes more than 60 different copper-based alloys to produce specialized sheet and strip products for a variety of end uses. Primary markets for our high-performance products include automotive, microelectronic, and communication interconnects, as well as a long history in the supply of standard alloys in the manufacture of ammunition, coinage, and builders’ hardware. We currently have an opportunity for an Environmental Engineer at our East Alton, Illinois, facility.


Purpose of Role

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for overall environmental compliance for East Alton Operations and advising and supporting as needed at our Bryan Metals, Fineweld Tube, and Somers Thin Strip operations. The role is also responsible for maintaining systems to ensure regulatory inspections, procedures, and testing are complete. Must be familiar with all operations and interact with managers at all levels of the organization.


Core Accountabilities

  • Develop and manage environmental projects from concept to completion.   Must provide advice and assessment of future manufacturing projects to ensure environmental regulatory compliance is maintained and improved.
  • Conducts field investigations and prepares reports for issues and resolutions relative to environmental/pollution control equipment. These include, but are not limited to, Title V, SERA, SPCC, and storm water systems.
  • Establishes and enforces performance levels and expectations in environmental plans and confirms conformance to environmental plans and specifications.
  • Visits and assesses outside vendors for solid waste disposal.
  • Supports and encourages employee involvement in continuous improvement activities, including Safety Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, TPM and Maintenance Excellence activities.
  • Manage the outside contractor for operation of the Zone 17 WWTF.  
  • Must maintain knowledge level of governmental affairs as related to environmental regulations through outside sources.  
  • Prepare and submit Permit or regulatory required reports and permit modifications related to CAA Title V, SARA, RCRA, and CWA NPDES.  



  1. Degree in Environmental Engineering (or reasonable equivalent) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Environmental Engineering.
  2. Strong mechanical skills for understanding pollution control equipment is required.
  3. Strong communication and leadership skills with experience in the environmental and regulatory compliance as it relates to manufacturing equipment.
