Overview

GBC Metals, LLC, doing business as Olin Brass, utilizes more than 60 different copper-based alloys to produce specialized sheet and strip products for a variety of end uses. Primary markets for our high-performance products include automotive, microelectronic and communication interconnects—as well as a long history in the supply of standard alloys in the manufacture of ammunition, coinage and builders’ hardware. We have an opportunity for a Commercial Project Engineer at our Louisville, Kentucky, corporate office or our East Alton, Illinois facility.

Responsibilities

Purpose of Role

The Commercial Project Engineer, Growth & Business Development, will lead and provide technical support for a portfolio of incremental (I), advancing (A), and breakthrough (B) growth projects within the Growth & Business Development organization. Robust technical acumen and an intimate knowledge of Olin Brass products, capabilities and business practices will be required to align technical requirements with developing customer needs.

 

Core Accountabilities

  • Lead and/or contribute to assigned I/A/B growth initiatives from ideation to commercial launch.
  • Own technical milestones and overcome hurdles/challenges on assigned projects by leveraging technical/commercial expertise, product/process knowledge, and a deep understanding of the targeted customer base. This includes identifying/establishing technical requirements and recommending/implementing solutions that best deliver against customer needs.
  • Contribute insights/ideas to the ideation phase of the project pipeline/roadmap, and assess technical viability of insights/ideas as they are proposed.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a technical field required, Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science strongly preferred;
  2. Minimum 5-8 years of technical/metals experience with specific focus on innovation and market development;
  3. Experience leading complex cross-functional projects while contributing own technical capability to the effort;
  4. Working knowledge of change management strategies, including experience implementing them;
  5. Passionate team player that exhibits entrepreneurial spirit and a high degree of comfort with ambiguity;
  6. Skill in acquiring and analyzing data/information from disparate sources, distilling it down to key findings and implications, and leveraging it in technical recommendations and decision making;
  7. Excellent communication, presentation, meeting management and group facilitation skills including the ability to work with external business partners and individuals at all levels of a corporate organization;
  8. Willingness and ability to travel as role/responsibilities dictate (up to moderate levels).
