Overview

GBC Metals, LLC, doing business as Olin Brass, utilizes more than 60 different copper-based alloys to produce specialized sheet and strip products for a variety of end uses. Primary markets for our high-performance products include automotive, microelectronic, and communication interconnects, as well as a long history in the supply of standard alloys in the manufacture of ammunition, coinage, and builders’ hardware. We currently have an opportunity for a Procurement Specialist at our East Alton, Illinois, facility.

Responsibilities

Purpose of Role

As a member of the Strategic Sourcing team, the Procurement Specialist will negotiate and execute purchase order agreements for operational and maintenance supplies, services and metal in accordance with Olin Brass’s purchasing policies (e.g. MRO supplies, logistics, scrap metal) while developing sourcing strategies for key commodities. In addition, the Specialist will collaborate with Olin Brass operations, maintenance and business teams in making purchasing decisions and provide analytical support through the use of technology to improve reporting, risk management and audit compliance.

 

Core Accountabilities

  • Identify opportunities to reduce Olin Brass supplies and services spend through supplier price reduction, change of supplier, product substitution or inventory reduction. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute cost-saving opportunities.
  • Purchasing lead for logistics responsible for working with operational logistics team to identify and implement sourcing strategies to drive cost saving and efficiency improvements.
  • Develop an understanding of non-ferrous scrap market, create and execute purchasing strategies and manage scrap vendor relationships.
  • Apply understanding of software and systems to improve efficiency of purchasing reports.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop creative supply agreements to support the needs of the operation and minimize Olin Brass’ liability.
  • Complete tasks in support of the company’s ISO and SOX requirements as well as financial forecasting and performance reporting.
  • Track and communicate supplier quality and delivery performance to improve service levels.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

  1. B.S. Degree in Business or technical related discipline;
  2. Minimum three years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment with logistics sourcing experience desired;
  3. Ability to work independently and manage priorities;
  4. Ability to work and communicate effectively with all other departments within the organization;
  5. Ability/aspirations to live the Olin Brass vision and values;
  6. Strong negotiation skills;
  7. Strong computer skills with emphasis on SAP and Excel.
