GBC Metals, LLC, doing business as Olin Brass, utilizes more than 60 different copper-based alloys to produce specialized sheet and strip products for a variety of end uses. Primary markets for our high-performance products include automotive, microelectronic, and communication interconnects, as well as a long history in the supply of standard alloys in the manufacture of ammunition, coinage, and builders’ hardware. We currently have an opportunity for a Department Manager, at our East Alton, Illinois, facility.


Purpose of Role

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Department Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of his/her assigned department. In particular, the Department Manager ensures the department meets all established goals in safety, quality, OTP and cost performance.


Core Accountabilities

  • Implement developed strategies to meet safety, quality, production, maintenance and planning needs of the area.
  • Coach, mentor and/or discipline supervisors/ hourly employees in a consistent manner to maximize area performance in all categories.
  • Utilize lean methodologies to develop strategies for year over year improvement.
  • Work with supervisors to develop a work environment of collaboration and accountability.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to implement strategies to maximize equipment availability.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the bargaining unit contract and its application in the workplace.


Competencies and Qualifications

  1. Strong leadership and communication skills;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or equivalent supervisory experience;
  3. 5 to 10 years of manufacturing experience;
  4. Lean manufacturing experience preferred.
